AMN (Avalanche, Mountain Travel & Rescue, Nordic/Backcountry) Instructor Refresher

Instructor Continuing Education and Patroller Enhancement Seminar Credits offered

This event is open to all Avalanche, MTR, and Nordic Instructors or Patrollers interested in becoming instructors and interested in NSP enhancement credits.  Instructors must attend the AMN once every three years for refresher credit (and maintain their Instructorship).  Like last year, there will be an “online learning” component for instructor credit on Eastern Divison’s Moodle School, which is required for credit.

Show up on Friday and set up a campsite in the designated camping area. Camping will be on location at the base of the mountain. Friday night dinner will be available for purchase from the food service vendor from 6:00 to 8:30. Chicken Cheese Steaks, Cheese Steaks, Fries and Drinks will be available for purchase. Please indicate on the registration form if you will likely eat at the mountain – we need an approximate number for the vendor.

Saturday morning begins the all-day refresher with field exercises.

The free AMN Ticket includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday morning. On Saturday evening, a potluck dinner is traditionally organized at the campsite. Bring your favorite dish to share with the participants. We are checking on grills. You may want to bring a camp stove if you need it. Electricity should be near the dining area, so bring a long extension cord for those crock pots!

Note on food allergies and dietary restrictions:  We will do our best to provide a wide array of foods that meet most dietary restrictions. If your dietary restrictions are important to your well-being, you should bring food that you know you will be able to eat.  If you are a picky eater prone to complaining, you should bring your own food.

HYBRID ONLINE LESSONS

Like last year, all Instructors seeking refresher credit will need to log into Moodle School to complete the associated online lessons. All refresher attendees will be provided links and login info to the Online Moodle School. Watch for email notifications, check your spam folder around August 15th….

GEAR SWAP

This year we would like to offer something we haven’t done in a long time… An opportunity to clean out your old gear. We will provide an area for you to present and possibly sell your used gear. We will provide tags. Add your contact info and price. Maybe you can sell some gear to make room for… Well… new gear, of course.

If you are not interested in selling old gear, feel free to donate something to the SWAG pile.

OPTIONAL Sunday MTR Enhancement will be:

“S.A.R. Adventure Challenge”

Stick around for Sunday. Put your backcountry skills to work. You will be organized into small teams to complete a self-supported tour around the Spring Mountain Adventures area, demonstrating backcountry skills along your route. Of course, it won’t be THAT easy! Navigation, shelter building, rope systems, beacon searches, splinting, fire building, and water filtering skills may be involved. Be sure to use your team’s collective knowledge and gear to complete each challenge and maybe learn some new techniques from each other. This is always a fun event.

Bring your packs. Expect opportunities to try out new gear and techniques. Work together with your team to complete challenges. HINT: “Don’t forget your compass.” We will have additional equipment that can be signed out on the day of the event if needed. More details will be provided as we get closer. All Teams are expected to be done by 2:00 pm.

This Sunday event is considered an optional MTR Enhancement Course and will be credited to your educational profile.

After registering, look for an email confirmation with ticket printing instructions.  After August 15th, Online Learning instructions will also be emailed within 24 hours of joining (watch your JUNK MAIL folder if your email provider believes course information is unsolicited spam).
