“Rescue-Ready, Resource-Smart”

September 27th

AMN (Avalanche, Mountain Travel & Rescue, Nordic/Backcountry) Instructor Continuing Education

This event is open to all patrollers interested in entering leadership roles in the education of Avalanche, MTR, and Nordic Backcountry. Its official mission is to offer Instructors an opportunity to obtain their required NSP Instructor Continuing Education. However, for those interested in becoming Instructors and leaders, this event also offers enhancement credits and an opportunity to network with AMN leaders from around the Eastern Division. Instructors must attend an in-person AMN once every three years for credit to maintain their Instructorship. Like last year, there will be an “online learning” component for instructor credit on the Eastern Division’s Moodle School, which is required for full credit.

Show up on Friday and set up a campsite in the designated camping area. Camping will be on location at the base of the mountain. Friday night dinner is up to you. The AMN25 Instructor Refresher will begin at 8:00 am with check-in and breakfast beginning Saturday at 7:15 am.

More information and updates will be detailed on the Online Learning AMN Course main page inside Moodle School.

We have listened to your comments for more hands-on time. Saturday morning marks the start of an all-day refresher, featuring field exercises. Be prepared for a long day outside as you progress through the skills evolutions. Following all of the evolutions we will break for a potluck cookout style dinner, then reconvene for Program updates with Q&A, followed by the crowd favorite raffle.

The free AMN Ticket includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday. On Saturday evening, a potluck dinner is traditionally organized at the campsite. Bring your favorite dish to share with the participants. We will have grills available. You may want to bring a camp stove if you need it. Electricity will be available for crock pots at the outdoor dining area!

Note on food allergies and dietary restrictions:  We will do our best to provide a wide array of foods that meet most dietary restrictions. If your dietary restrictions are important to your well-being, you should bring food that you know you will be able to eat. If you are a picky eater prone to complaining, you should bring your own food.

THIS YEAR’S NEW AMN SCHEDULE IN THE FIELD

Over the past few years, we have encouraged AMN Instructors to structure their own learning events as “Field-Based Learning Activities.”  Students learn far more effectively when offered a chance at doing!  This year the event is heading into the field for the entire day. Long station learning blocks will give all of us a chance to experiment with the coaching philosophy that AMN has been preaching for the last three years. We are cutting out the morning Zoom session and moving directly into fieldwork. This year’s schedule will not end at 5 pm on Saturday. Be prepared to integrate Saturday evening’s dinner into working sessions. AMN25 will not officially end until 8 pm Saturday evening, which is why we suggest that everyone take the opportunity to stay for the Sunday morning session.

HYBRID ONLINE LESSONS

Like last year, all Instructors seeking refresher credit will need to log into Moodle School to complete the associated online lessons. All refresher attendees will be provided links and login info to the Online Moodle School. Watch for email notifications around August 15th…., If you still don’t see a notification, check your spam folder.

OPTIONAL Sunday MTR Enhancement Seminar Learning Opportunity

Please stick around for Sunday. We are planning an extension of the Saturday fieldwork.  You may select your favorite discipline and focus your attention with the staff on activities such as exploration, experimentation, and deliberately designed practice. Or, you may float in and out of the stations offered by the other NSP educational disciplines.

Sunday is structured around your needs and desires, but you need to attend to receive the benefits of Sunday’s practical experience.
