Come to Pinkham Notch New Hampshire to experience the grandeur of Mt. Washington and the skiing in the Tuckerman Ravine area. Late April is often the best time to explore, because the weather has typically mellowed out with warm sunshine, yet the snow surface is still great.

Bring your skins and your favorite touring gear, be it telemark skis, a split snowboard, or alpine touring skis.  Our goal is to expand touring beyond skinning up our lift served resort and experience a tour with a great group of like minded Patrollers in the backcountry.   While the primary focus is on skinning and skiing, participants should be prepared for some hiking as well, depending on conditions. Topics will include trip planning, weather and trail resources, self-sufficiency, group dynamics, and safe, efficient, and fun travel in the backcountry.

This is a one day adventure.  We will meet with our day-pack gear (including our Ten Essentials) in the basement of the Pinkham Visitor Center for a gear check.  The group will have the traditional Pinkham breakfast with a trip planning meeting then embark up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, first stop being the Hermit Lake Shelter.  From there the itinerary takes through several learning activities, some MTR travel based, other Nordic Backcountry oriented.

For those who seek lodging before or after, the AMC runs the Joe Dodge Lodge right there at Pinkham Notch.  The closest hotel would be the Glenn House Hotel one mile further up the highway.  North Conway, Jackson and Intervale, lies below Mt Washington with lots of great restaurants and places to stay.

Event cancelled due to snow conditions.  Stay tuned for next winter!
