Women’s Uphill Skinning Skiing/Riding, GPS Navigation & Toboggans – Burke Mountain VT

Eastern Division Women’s Program and Northern Vermont Region Present this Guided Uphill Skinning Skiing/Riding, GPS Search/Navigation & Toboggan Handling event!

Join us for an empowering day at Burke Mountain. The day will start with a guided up-hill skin-up touring adventure, followed by a GPS tracking exercise (i.e. looking for a lost skier with GPS coordinates & a compass). The afternoon will include toboggan handling and a toboggan challenge. Whether you’re a seasoned ski patroller or someone looking to refine your skills, this event offers a supportive environment to build confidence and expertise.

What to Expect

Guided uphill skin-up adventure: climb with a local guide to the summit. Expect moderate to intense physical exertion. No prior experience is necessary, but you need to have your own equipment (skis/splitboard & skins) in proper working condition. We will travel at a pace comfortable for each participant. Coaching for different skill levels will ensure you get the most out of the day.

GPS Search exercise: with the use of a cell phone app and compass, you will be given GPS coordinates simulating the location of a lost skier, and the exercise will bring us down open terrain to search and locate based on GPS coordinates.

Toboggan: we will offer a toboggan practice session, followed by a toboggan mini-games event, where you will be practicing specific skills on a low-angle open trail.

Networking Opportunities: Connect with other women in the ski patrol and skiing communities, share experiences, and build lasting relationships.

Who Should Attend

This event is open to all women—cisgender, transgender, and nonbinary individuals who are comfortable in a space centered on women’s experiences.

What You should bring

Your own skinning/touring equipment (ski/snowboard, skins, poles, helmet) in working condition
A cell phone with the ability to download an app (details will be provided to the participant)
