The Instructor Development<\/strong> (ID) program operates primarily at the Regional level.\u00a0 The best way to find an Instructor Development<\/strong> course is to locate available events on your Regional event calendar<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Contact the Regional ID Advisor listed on your region’s website<\/a><\/strong> if no courses are being advertised.<\/p>\n

Many regions occasionally advertise and present old-fashioned ID courses set in a classroom. However, the hybrid E-COURSE style of learning has proliferated across the division.\u00a0 Any Patroller seeking to become an NSP Instructor can begin this process on their own by following the steps outlined below.\u00a0 It is important to keep in mind that until your HYBRID E-COURSE is completed with a short “in-person” learning session at the Regional level, NSP credit will not be provided.\u00a0 ID course credit requires a face-to-face teaching session with an ID Instructor.\u00a0 Each region has a different way of connecting with its students for these in-person sessions.\u00a0 Contact your local Regional ID Advisor<\/a><\/strong> to schedule course completion and credit.<\/p>\n

The ID E-Course Completion Process<\/strong><\/h2>\n

STEP ONE:\u00a0<\/strong> ID students can get started on their own by using the resources available from NSP.\u00a0 Download the textbook “Instructor Development, Training the Adult Learner.”\u00a0<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>Reading the text is recommended in preparation for the upcoming steps.<\/p>\n

STEP TWO:\u00a0<\/strong> The next step consists of ONLINE E-COURSE study using NSP’s Center for Learning<\/strong>.\u00a0 Use the BROWSE feature to locate the course: Instructor Development:\u00a0 Student – Hybrid (Online Modules).\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong> Enroll yourself, and begin the video lectures and quizzes.<\/p>\n

STEP THREE:\u00a0<\/strong> After completing the online, please print the “Certificate of Completion.”\u00a0 You should print a copy and download a PDF file version of the certificate.\u00a0 A copy of the certificate needs to go to the ID Instructor that your local region will assign to attend a face-to-face portion of the course.<\/p>\n

STEP FOUR:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is the Regional portion of the course, where, under the guidance of an ID Instructor, students will explore a few Learning Activities to develop their skills for:<\/p>\n

      3. Monitoring students for understanding<\/li>\n
      4. Positive immediate student feedback<\/li>\n
      5. and learn about the Mentoring Process<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        To locate the Regional ID offerings, please click this link and locate your nearest Region<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Use the regional event calendars or the contact info provided for the Instructor Development RA to set up a local in-person course.\u00a0 Many regions will teach this face-to-face portion of the course using a combination of email correspondence, Zoom sessions, and a meeting at a local ski area.<\/p>\n

        STEP FIVE:<\/strong>\u00a0 Students using ID as a Senior Elective are done.\u00a0 Successful students wishing to become NSP Instructors will be placed in a regional mentoring program to develop their teaching credentials further.<\/p>\n
