Closing an NSP Course

National Ski Patrol requires that each Patroller who participates in courses receive credit which gets logged on each member’s educational profile. The new NSP system has moved away from searchable course numbers and transferred record keeping to the LMS LEARNING CENTER.  However, searching for the exact course has become cumbersome for students.  The new LMS has a difficult time providing the correct course among hundreds of search choices.

To provide a frictionless student experience, Eastern Division recommends that IORs hide all courses from the LMS catalog and manually add each student after they satisfactorily complete their attendance.

STUDENTS SEEKING COURSE CREDIT: Please contact your Instructor or IOR and ask them to manually add you as having attended the course. Instructors can do this before the course begins and after it has concluded.

HOW AN INSTRUCTOR CAN SET UP HIDDEN COURSE CREDIT

Please log in to NSP.ORG and select the “CENTER FOR LEARNING” button.

On the main screen of the CENTER FOR LEARNING, click the “Go to your INSTRUCTOR CENTER” tile and search through the list to locate the course that needs to be managed.  Click the MANAGE button and scroll down to the bottom of the GENERAL DETAILS page.  Look for a section known as CATALOG OPTIONS.  Check the setting called HIDE SESSION IN CALALOG, as shown in the picture below.

This will simplify assembling a student roster for Instructors.  Members searching from outside divisions will no longer appear as unknown students, and the true students attending the class will not need to experience the confusion or request course credit on the new NSP Center for Learning.

IOR MUST ENROLL/ADD STUDENTS MANUALLY

To validate that an official NSP course is taking place, Instructors are required to add the members who will be students.  Switch to the ENROLLMENTS tab and look for the ADD button found at the bottom of the page.  Clicking ADD will provide a search page that shows all 30,000 members of the organization.  Use the SEARCH BOX field to type in the first name and last name of each student.  You may also search for students using their 6-digit NSP ID number.

Remember that to submit a student to your course roster from the search, Instructors must select the patroller with a blue colored CHECKMARK before hitting the SUBMIT button.
