Eastern Division OET TE Virtual Training Webinar

BEFORE BEGINNING:

Trainer-Evaluators and Instructor Trainers will benefit from reviewing the Eastern Division OET Program Manual found on the public side of the OET page of this website.  The program manual is intended to be accessed by Ski Patrollers seeking education at all levels.  The mission of the web-based interactive manual is to set standards for training, teaching, and evaluation for the two credentialing levels: Alpine Senior Patroller and the OET Trainer-Evaluator.  Click these buttons to familiarize yourself with these new OET student/instructor resources:

The Webinar Series below is intended to guide the use of the Eastern Division OET Program Manual for Trainer Evaluators and the Instructor Trainers who manage and recertify NSP’s various OET Instructors. It is important to read each description that explains the purpose and intended audience for each resource before watching the videos.

OET Video #1 "Unpacking the Five Fundamentals"

Audience: Region Staff TE’s and Instructor Trainers invited by RA’s

Video Playing Time:  47 minutes

Description:  Resource for any Trainer-Evaluators seeking teaching strategies utilizing the Five Fundamentals of Efficient Skiing from PSIA.  The video is a recorded webinar style discussion using movement analysis to identify and analyze a variety of turn shapes and ski ability.  Video could be used for self-reflection or to improve your mind’s eye as an Instructor.

OET Video #2 "From Standards to Feedback"

Audience: Region Staff TE’s and Instructor Trainers invited by RA’s

Video Playing Time:  75 minutes

Description:  This video is meant to help TE’s develop a skill for using the Senior and TE Standards found in the OET Program Manual to provide feedback using our the PISE model and ADAPT or Re-ADAPT to coach student performance. The videos show a range of skiers for illustrative purposes.

Notice that the scoring method is being updated to provide clarity and transparency.  The Senior level expectations for passing the exam have not changed!

OET’s primary focus will remain the safe and efficient transport of injured skiers. Please view these resources as a way to foster continuous improvement.

OET Video #3 "Linking Drills to Skills"

Audience: Region Staff TE’s and Instructor Trainers invited by RA’s

Video Playing Time:  36 minutes

Description:  Learn to connect common drills to improve Patroller Skills and Skiing. This video provides examples that connect skier/patrol skill improvement to skill progressions. Learn how to be a more effective coach for your Candidates and students.

OET Video #4 "Updated Senior/TE Scoring Methodology"

Audience: Region Staff TE’s and Instructor Trainers invited by RA’s

Video Playing Time:  30 minutes

Description: Intended to provide an overview of the updated Senior and TE Evaluation SCORING SYSTEM. The system is designed to provide more specific feedback for the candidates.

Senior and TE evaluation standards have evolved and scoring is now focused within a smaller range, relating directly back to the standard for each respective level. Future training will be made available at Patroller School events throughout Winter 2022.

OET Video #5 "Staff Administrative Responsibilities"

Audience: Region Staff Instructor Trainers (ITs) invited by RA’s. 

Video Playing Time:  21 minutes

Description:  Overview of the responsibilities and process for Instructor Trainers and Regional OET Staff members to report instructor updates. This video explains requirements and timelines for reporting using the OET Helpdesk found on PatrollerSchool.ORG.  It is a “must watch” for all ITs to learn and refresh the procedure that recertifies Instructor status at all levels.
